Custom Stainless Steel Manure Spreader for a Farm in Réunion

A twin-vertical-beater manure spreading solution engineered for the hot, humid and corrosive working conditions of Réunion.

Project at a Glance

  • Location: Réunion, France
  • Application: Livestock manure and organic fertilizer spreading
  • Machine: Tractor-towed twin vertical beater manure spreader
  • Key customization: 304 stainless steel on hopper sections that contact fertilizer
  • Operating environment: Tropical, humid and corrosive

Customer Background

The customer operates a long-established mixed farm in Réunion, a French overseas department. The farm combines sugarcane and vegetable production with livestock farming, so manure and organic fertilizer need to be handled and spread regularly.

Réunion has a tropical maritime climate with warm temperatures, high humidity and a long rainy season. The customer’s previous spreader used a conventional carbon-steel structure. Repeated exposure to moisture and corrosive manure made rust more likely, increasing maintenance work, repair costs and the need for replacement parts over time.

Réunion’s warm, humid coastal climate increases corrosion risk for equipment that handles manure and organic fertilizer.

The Challenge

The farm needed a twin vertical beater manure spreader that could connect directly to its existing tractor and handle routine applications of livestock manure and organic fertilizer. A standard carbon-steel structure was not the best fit for the local climate and material conditions.

The customer focused on five practical requirements:

  • Resistance to corrosion during long-term contact with manure
  • Stable operation in hot and humid conditions
  • Even spreading for routine farm work
  • Direct compatibility with the existing tractor
  • Straightforward maintenance over the machine’s service life

Purchase price was therefore only one part of the decision. Corrosion resistance, working life and long-term maintenance cost were more important to the customer.

The Custom Solution

After reviewing the operating environment, fertilizer type and tractor configuration, HUIFU developed a tractor-towed stainless steel twin vertical beater manure spreader for the farm. The design focused on corrosion resistance, spreading performance and compatibility with the customer’s equipment.

304 Stainless Steel Hopper

The custom spreader uses 304 stainless steel for all hopper sections that come into direct contact with fertilizer.

All hopper sections that come into direct contact with fertilizer were manufactured from 304 stainless steel. Compared with conventional carbon steel, this material is better suited to repeated exposure to livestock manure, compost and other organic fertilizers in humid conditions.

The stainless steel construction helps reduce corrosion-related damage and maintenance requirements, making it a more practical choice for long-term use in Réunion’s climate.

Twin Vertical Beater Spreading System

During operation, material is moved toward the rear of the machine and then broken up and discharged by two rotating vertical beaters. This arrangement supports more even field distribution and a broad spreading pattern.

The system is suitable for livestock manure, cattle manure, compost and other organic fertilizer materials.

Matched to the Existing Tractor

The towing arrangement and transmission system were matched to the customer’s tractor connection and available power. Once the machine arrived at the farm, it could be connected to the existing tractor without a separate power unit or extensive on-site modification.

Production and Delivery

After the configuration was confirmed, the machine moved through production, assembly and factory testing. Before shipment, the spreading mechanism, transmission system and overall machine operation were checked to confirm that the spreader was ready for routine farm work.

Project Results

After delivery, the customer connected the spreader to the existing tractor and put it into regular fertilizer application. The stainless steel hopper improved the machine’s suitability for the farm’s humid, corrosive environment, while the twin vertical beaters broke up the material and distributed it evenly.

The customized design addressed the corrosion problems experienced with the previous carbon-steel equipment and is expected to reduce rust-related maintenance, downtime and replacement-part costs.

The customer reported that the spreader was easy to connect, simple to operate and stable during spreading.

Customer Feedback

“This is exactly what we needed. The stainless steel build handles our manure without any corrosion worries — the machine just keeps working season after season. Easy to hook up to our tractor and spreads evenly. Worth every euro.”

Customized Manure Spreading Solutions for Different Farms
